Tania Heller, M.D., F.A.A.P. is a board-certified pediatrician, author and independent medical school admissions consultant. She is the Founder of the Washington Center for Eating Disorders and Adolescent Obesity and has practiced medicine in the Washington Metropolitan area for over 30 years, most recently as the Center's Medical Director. Dr. Heller graduated from the University of Cape Town/Groote Schuur Hospital in South Africa, then completed her pediatric residency at Georgetown University Medical Center. After residency, she became a partner in a large pediatric practice where she practiced pediatric and adolescent medicine for about thirteen years, then served as Medical Director of Nighttime Pediatrics, prior to becoming Medical Director of the Washington Center.
Dr Heller has been a regular speaker, including keynote speaker at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, for high school students interested in a career in Medicine. She has also regularly lectured to college students, medical students and physicians at schools, universities and hospitals, including University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University Medical Center. In addition she has experience as a medical school applicant interviewer.
Dr. Heller hosted an educational pediatric radio program, published a number of medical articles and has written five books, including the bestseller On Becoming a Doctor, published by Sourcebooks and You and Your Doctor, published by McFarland. Dr. Heller is on the honorary staff of Suburban Hospital/Johns Hopkins Health and is a clinical assistant professor at Georgetown University Hospital in the School of Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, an IECA Associate Member, and member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling. She has also served as a resource to both television and print media, including U.S. News & World Report, and News Channel 4.
