Q&A with Jake

• How was attending the program different than learning in a traditional classroom?
  It is smaller groups and focused more on the individual. It is all about knowledge and gaining experience.
  
• What was the most interesting thing that you learned from attending the Junior National Youth Leaders Conference?
  The sessions were great and so were the tours. What I learned most is that I can accomplish anything I want if I set my mind to it.
  
• How has your JrNYLC experience changed your view on being a leader, learning and your future?
  It takes time and courage to become a real leader.
  
• What part of the program did you enjoy the most?
  Meeting free speech advocate and keynote speaker Mary Beth Tinker. My experience at JrNYLC and meeting Mary Beth Tinker greatly influenced my National History Day project in 2014. This year’s project was about rights and responsibilities. I was reminded me of Ms. Tinker and her court case which would fit perfectly with this year's theme. I chose to develop a website for my project and recently won 1st place in my division at the National History Day state competition in Mississippi.
  
• What would you tell other students who are considering to attend the program?
  It was one of the best things that has happened to me and I recommend it to anyone.
  
• What inspires you most as a young leader?
  My parents really inspire me.
