About the Online Medical Academy
 

During the Online Medical Academy, in collaboration with The Apprentice Doctor®, you will explore medical instruments, surgical tools, examination and diagnostic techniques, as well as career opportunities in medicine via an online learning platform. Gain tangible medical and surgical skills using comprehensive simulation kits as well as numerous accredited training courses. Through a combination of self-paced instruction, hands-on project work, and interactive tutorials designed by medical professionals, you’ll be immersed in a medical school-caliber experience.

About Online Medical Academy

Hands-On Learning From Home

The Online Medical Academy will teach you about a variety of important topics in the medical profession, ranging from ethics to research to diagnoses of diseases, and provide practical projects suitable for self-examination or the examination of a test patient (such as a friend or family member). Each course’s lessons have been compiled by a wide range of practicing medical professionals and field experts using videos, animations, and sound recordings. By completing this program, you can:

  • Acquire over 50 foundational medical examination and diagnostic skills
  • Understand medical ethics using and benefitting from case studies
  • Practice a variety of phlebotomy and IV techniques and explore how to draw blood from various blood vessels, even when they’re hard to find
  • Rehearse controlling and stopping a life-threatening bleed (the simulation arm has blood vessels that actually bleed)
  • See proper scrub-for-surgery techniques and ascertain the critical subject of Sterility and Asepsis
  • Improve your success in private or hospital practice by learning about behavioral science

Certified Virtual Courses

After passing the course assessments, you’ll receive a certificate from the Future Doctors Academy for each course you complete. The courses in this program that provide certificates upon successful assessment include:

  • The Foundation Medical Course
  • The Control Bleeding Course
  • Venipuncture
  • Behavioral Sciences in Medicine

You’ll also have access to post-program archives until one full year after your enrollment date.

Simulation Kit and Course Details

In addition to the kits and courses listed below, you’ll receive access to the Behavioral Sciences in Medicine course and a finger pulse oximeter to accompany the Pulse Oximeter lecture.

The Foundation Medical Course and For Future Doctors Kit

Provide a good understanding of:

  • The basic principles of conducting a medical examination
  • How to use several medical instruments and items
  • Basic human anatomy and physiology, including the 11 bodily systems
  • The systematic approach to diagnosing diseases
  • The importance of taking a thorough medical history
The Control Bleeding Course and Training Kit

Give the unique opportunity to:

  • Control bleeding with tools from both an emergency setting and a controlled medical environment
  • Discover the different types of bleeding
  • Understand the functions of the circulatory system
  • Learn about vital signs and pharmacology
The Venipuncture Course and Training Kit

Offer:

  • Skill development for injections, phlebotomy, and IV placement
  • Basic venipuncture theory, case studies, and practical demonstrations
  • Content on sharp safety, sterility, as well as aseptic and barrier techniques
  • Information about venous anatomy and tourniquets
  • Venous and capillary blood collection techniques for using a syringe and needle, a butterfly needle, as well as a hub and vacuum tube
About The Apprentice Doctor

About The Apprentice Doctor®

The Apprentice Doctor was founded by Dr. Anton Scheepers, a qualified practicing medical professional with more than 20 years of surgical experience, specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Due to his specialty, Dr. Anton has completed rotations in general surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as ear, nose, and throat surgery.

In 2002, The Apprentice Doctor materialized when Dr. Anton had the idea to offer aspiring doctors a glimpse into the field of medicine. He felt particularly passionate about providing students and interested professionals with a hands-on experience, leading to the company’s unique curriculum combining courses and kits.

The Apprentice Doctor is a member of the International E-Learning Association (IELA), serves as the official course material for numerous educational programs, and is accredited by AdvancED (the largest community of education professionals in the world), The National Association of Private Schools (NAPS), and The Florida Coalition of Christian Private Schools Association (FCCPSA) through Solid Rock Community and Virtual Schools.

  • Is the Online Medical Academy for me?

    This program is for you if you are a high school student interested in exploring the tools and numerous career options available in the field of medicine.

    To join the Online Medical Academy, you must be in grades 9–12 during the 2022–2023 school year. If you would have any additional questions, please contact our Office of Admissions by phone at 844-219-7332.

  • Are there any system requirements?

    No. If you have an internet connection, you should be able to access the program from anywhere.

  • How does the Online Medical Academy differ from the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Medicine or NYLF Advanced Medicine & Health Care programs?

    The Online Medical Academy is a virtual experience that focuses on teaching specific medical techniques through an online platform, which can be completed at any time within one (1) year of a student enrolling, while NYLF Medicine and NYLF Advanced Medicine & Health Care are in-person medical and health care career exploration programs that take place on specific dates over the summer.

    Although some of the materials included with the Online Medical Academy are the same as those used at NYLF Medicine and NYLF Advanced Medicine & Health Care, namely the Suturing Practice Kit and Venipuncture Training Kit, the activities the students participate in at these programs are not. In fact, some students choose to add the Online Medical Academy to their enrollment to prepare for their in-person NYLF Medicine or NYLF Advanced Medicine & Health Care program at home.
