Welcome readers to an exclusive NFL mock draft that's really going to shake
things up. We're not looking at college prospects here. No, today we're drafting...chores! That's right, we're
turning those pesky household tasks into a can't-miss event.
Get your notepads ready, because we're going through picks of intense
chore drafting action. I'll be serving as both commissioner and official draftmaster for this very important
exercise, and am walking up to the podium...now.
With the first pick in the 2024 House Chores draft, Envision by WorldStrides
selects:
1. Doing the Laundry
Immediately controversial, but I'm going big and taking Doing the Laundry off
the board. This chore utilizes science skills by requiring knowledge of material properties, wash cycles, detergent
formulas, and machinery operations. Doing laundry is an every-week, game-changing type of chore that demands a
strong STEM foundation.
2. Vacuuming
Following laundry, vacuuming has to be the next chore off the board. This
chore puts engineering principles into action by optimizing air flow, suction power, and machine mechanics for
maximum cleaning efficiency. That new vacuum smell is basically the equivalent of a prospect's combine numbers just
jumping off the page at you.
3. Cleaning the Bathrooms
After the two big ones are off the board, I'll go with Cleaning the Bathrooms
here. People sleep on this due to the unpleasant nature of the task, but you can't underestimate the importance of
maintaining sanitary conditions - a key application of biology and chemistry knowledge. Properly cleaning and
disinfecting requires an acute understanding of germ theory and chemical compositions.
4. Washing the Dishes
With the 4th pick in the draft, I'll take Washing the Dishes. This chore
allows you to practice concepts like material interactions, soap formulations, temperature effects, and machine
calibrations - total applied physics. It's maybe not the flashiest pick, but it's crucial to remaining a
contributing member to any household.
5. Meal Prepping
After solidifying my foundation, I've got to start thinking about some
high-upside picks to round out my roster. So with my 5th pick, I'll take a swing on Meal Prepping. This chore
combines biology, chemistry, nutrition science, time management skills, and even a dash of mathematics through
precise measuring and portioning. It's a high-risk, high-reward type of pick because if it hits, your body will be
thanking you in the short and long term.
6. Cleaning the Car
Here with the 6th pick, I'll take Cleaning the Car off the board. This
two-part chore flexes your mechanical knowledge for the exterior car wash, plus applied chemistry for properly
cleaning the interior surfaces. It's a Week 1 starter type of chore for sure.
7. Changing Bedsheets
My 7th pick is Changing Bedsheets. It's not the flashiest, most high-profile
chore, but it does require some simple measurements and geometry to properly fit sheets on mattresses. A nice little
back-to-basics pick utilizing some fundamental math skills (though I'll never understand the science behind a fitted
sheet).
8. Gardening
Alright, we're down to my final pick. To round things out, I'll take a luxury
pick and go with some Gardening. Is this actually a chore? A hobby? A meditative practice? I don't care. This one
brings biology, ecology, and environmental science to the table by requiring you to understand sunlight exposure,
soil nutrients, planting schedules and more. A fun little luxury pick to round out my STEM-skilled chore corps.
…this was an absolute marathon effort, but I couldn't be more thrilled
with my haul. I'm locking these chores into my weekly routine and I'm not going to be out-worked, that's for sure.
This draft class has everything - fundamentals, advanced concepts, theory and
hands-on application across all the major STEM disciplines. I couldn't have stacked more valuable learning
experiences into one roster if I tried. We're getting ahead of the curve here, big time.
These chores aren't just household responsibilities anymore. No, they're
pathways to developing crucial science, tech, engineering and math skills for the future. This draft provides an
entire STEM-focused educational experience, conveniently bundled into the chor-riculum.
*hold for applause*
Thanks for joining me on this innovative, immersive journey through the world
of chore drafting and STEM learning integration. Just wait until exploratory coding and app development get added to
the big board next year - we're just getting started, baby!
